A Bit About Me

Hi, I’m Hayden Murray! I’m a senior at Utah Tech University, where I’m working toward my Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and will be graduating in May 2026. Before coming to Utah Tech, I earned my Associate of Arts in Studio Arts from Golden West College, which gave me a solid foundation in creativity and traditional art. I first discovered my love for graphic design in a typography class where I realized how powerful design can be in shaping how people see and experience the world. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on using design to tell stories and bring ideas to life.

This year, I’m part of UTSA, Utah Tech’s student association. I am on the marketing team, where I’m one of three graphic designers. Each week, I help create two to three campaigns promoting student events like dances, athletic games, and our weekly Wednesday events. I design everything from posters and

A-frames to social media graphics, making sure each project feels fresh and exciting. Working with UTSA has taught me a lot about collaboration, fast-paced design work, and creating visuals that connect with people on campus. It’s been a great way to see my work have a real impact in a community setting.

One of my favorite parts of being a designer is seeing my work exist in the real world and beyond just the computer screen. There’s something so rewarding about watching a design transform from an idea into something tangible that people can interact with. My style often mixes bold color, clean structure, and a playful edge, and I’m constantly inspired by modern branding and experimental typography. I'm getting closer to graduation, and I’m excited to keep growing as a designer, take on new creative challenges, and continue making designs that bring energy and personality to everyday spaces.

Work Experience

Handhive Academy
October 2024 - March 2025

During my internship with Handhive Academy, a nonprofit creating an app to help teach kids different subjects in ASL, I got to design a fun and friendly brand identity that really captured their mission. I created a unique logo, developed playful graphics for educational games, and designed visuals for their website. It was such a rewarding experience to see how design could help make learning more engaging and accessible. I also worked closely with the team to keep everything on track and make sure each project came together smoothly.

Graphic Designer (UTSA)
June 2025 - March 2026

On Utah Tech's Student  Marketing team, I work as one of three graphic designers creating visuals to promote campus events. Most of my design work is done in Adobe Illustrator, where I create posters, A-frames, and other physical deliverables that bring each event to life. I often manage multiple campaigns at once, working on tight two- to three-week deadlines. Each project starts with collaborating with different team members to capture the right vibe or feeling for an event, whether it’s a dance, game, or student activity. This role has helped me strengthen my skills in Illustrator, work efficiently under pressure, and translate ideas into visuals that connect with students and add energy to campus life.
